+ Two Tools for Body Doubling 👥
Hi Friends,
If you’re navigating a Pivot-in-progress and feeling stuck on what steps to take next, we’d love for you to join us next week for our final summer office hours pop-up featuring our wonderful Pivot Coaches!
How it works: Depending on how many people are there, we start with a round of quick check-ins (those who need to keep video and/or audio off are always welcome too), then we open it up to ~5-10-minute hot seats, totally optional. Those who want to share a question or challenge, and our Pivot Coaches ask powerful questions to help offer clarity on next steps. I always say that the topic of each hot seat is a gift to the group, since it often aligns with what the rest of us need to hear that day, too.

👥 Two Tools for Creating Accountability Containers
My husband taught me about body doubling last year, something particularly helpful for those with ADHD and/or who work better with others (rather than trying to self-motivate alone), inside an extra container of accountability.
It has been a game-changer for him — he now books out a full week of sessions each day through Preply (for music, language, and philosophy lessons that spark joy) and Focusmate ($8/month for unlimited sessions, free for up to three). Focusmate is less intense and more self-directed; you get matched up with someone around the world, both say what you’re going to work on, quietly work, then return to close out the call.
Last night, as I collapsed on the couch after a long day, he signed into Focusmate for a 25-minute session. His partner worked on paying bills while he “searched for a movie his wife might like.” 😂 1 In this case, it was helpful for time boxing — limiting the activity to twenty minutes, rather than letting it expand indefinitely, eating up too much of his focus and attention.
💬 Let us know in the comments: Do you benefit from body doubling?
If so, what are your favorite containers to set up? Are there any other online services you love that I missed?
🏖️ Get (or Gift) Your Next Summer Reads
I’ve been a proud Book of the Month member for over a year, and their community is currently celebrating its 100th! I look forward to every month’s “drop,” a selection of beach-readable books across different categories, prompting me to choose things I might not otherwise pick up if browsing a bookstore. These aren’t exactly beach reads, but two recent favorites:
Happiness and Love, a searing critique of the capital A- Art World in New York City, taking place over the course of a group dinner one evening (an homage to the 1984 novel Woodcutters) and
Delusions, self-deprecating personal essays by Cazzie David, daughter of the famous Larry (she makes fun of her nepo status before we can)

Had to look up the definition. Turns out it's what I've been doing all along with my writing community!
